I agree with "vickeya" about combining the concepts. The first one is graphically pleasing with the curved branch but it just floats. The black background in the second sets off all that green so well.
I'm another combo preference. I love the first one, but it needs something to stand on. A think green line to make it a square from branch to the I in ithaca.
If you could combine the concepts, that would be perfect. Take the image from the first one and do the various backgrounds from the second ones.
